How to use a Canon EOS Rebel XT Digital Cameras

Insert the battery, attach the lens and insert the memory card. All of these components will come separate and you must have each properly installed for the camera to work. The battery door and slot for the memory card are clearly marked, and there are colored guides on the camera body to attach the lens. Just line up the colored mark on the body with the same colored mark on the lens and twist into place.

Turn the Digital Cameras on. The switch is on the top right hand side of the Digital Cameras and is clearly marked with ‘On’ and ‘Off’. The LCD screen should come on.

Set the focus mode to AF. The switch is on the front of the Digital Cameras, on the ring just behind the lens. This will set your camera to automatic focus.

Set the mode dial to ‘Full Auto’. The mode dial is the dial directly beside the on and off switch on the top of the camera. The ‘Full Auto’ setting is designated by a rectangle symbol. This will allow the camera to automatically set all necessary settings, including the f-stop and shutter speed. In ‘Full Auto’ mode, the flash will also come up automatically in low light. To turn the flash off, turn the mode dial to the lightning bolt with a line through it. More advanced photographers may choose to set the camera to ‘Manual’ and change all of these settings themselves. If so, the shutter speed can be set using the dial just behind the shutter button, the f-stop can be set by holding down the ‘AV +/-’ button on the upper right hand side of the LCD screen while turning the same dial. The flash will not automatically pop up in ‘Manual’ mode. If you would like to use the flash, press the lighting bolt button on the left hand side of the front of the Digital Cameras.

Focus on the subject. Look through the viewfinder of the camera and frame your shot. Press the shutter button halfway down. The shutter button is located on the top right of the camera at the very front. Your shot should come into focus.

Take the photograph. Press the shutter button down completely to capture the image.

Locate the battery bay door on the underside of the camera, beneath the handgrip. Slide the door latch to the “Open” position. Open the door and insert the battery module into the battery bay. Close the battery bay door.

Remove both lens caps from the camera lens. Align the rear of the camera lens with the camera’s lens mount; insert the lens. If using an “EF” lens, align the marking on the rear of the camera lens with the red dot above the lens mount; if using an “EF-S” lens, align the marking with the white dot. Locate the focus mode switch on the camera lens; set the switch to “AF” (auto-focus).

Locate the CF card slot cover on the side of the camera; slide the cover open and insert the CF card into the slot, with the card’s label facing the rear of the camera. Close the cover and slide it back into a locked position.

Examine the mode dial located on top of the camera. Slide the power switch next to the dial to the “ON” position. Set the mode dial to the rectangular icon; this sets the camera to “full auto” mode.

Hold the camera with one hand on the hand-grip and the other supporting the weight of the lens. Lift the camera to your face and examine the LCD display to get a preview of your image. Tuck your elbows into your body and spread your legs apart, one slightly ahead of the other; this will increase the camera’s stability.

Apply light pressure to the shutter button and wait for its auto-focus process to complete. Press the button all the way down to finish taking your picture. Examine the LCD display to review your picture.

Hi,
There is a indicator on the bottom right corner of the viewfinder displaying 9 on my Canon 5d. I read from the manual that this is the maximum burst during continuous shooting. Bat what exactly is burst capacity? It’s not the number of photos I can shoot continuously cause i can shoot more than 9.

Install four AA batteries in the battery chamber.

Turn on the power by setting the main switch to “on.” The flash is ready for use when the “pilot” light is lit. The energy saving mode will automatically take effect after 90 seconds of idleness.

Adjust the flash head according to where you want the light directed. By directing the flash upwards toward the ceiling you will softly illuminate the subject and its immediate surroundings. Directing the flash straight at the subject will result in a stronger illumination on the subject and little of the background.

Compose your shot and take the picture. Your 420EX Digital Cameras should automatically fire. The flash exposure confirmation light on the back of the flash will light for three seconds to signal the correct exposure has taken place.
