I'm about to buy a new Canon EOS 450D digital camera, and my father is old EOS film lenses, which is about to give me. Would work on the new digital camera? and there is anyway to check and see if they do? (eg, a symbol?, etc.) and it suits always work with digital, if not working?

Yes your dad’s older lenses will work on your 450D.
One benefit will be that since the lenses for his film camera were designed to cast an image circle that covered a 35mm film frame, you’ll only be using the center part of the image circle on the smaller sensor – what’s known as the “sweet spot” of the lens.
Another benefit is that if you ever upgrade to a full-frame sensor camera like the 5D Mark II your older film lenses will still work just fine.
Yes, if they are EF lenses. You will find the letters ‘EF’ on the lens. If they are FD, don’t bother. You CAN buy adapters, however your image quality will degrade somewhat. Also, something to take into account is, a number of these old FD lenses are a lot heavier than the newer, EF and EF-S lenses.

If they are EF mounts then yes. If they are FD mounts, then you can get an FD to EF adapter.
The EOS system used/uses the EF lens mount which is used by your 450D. They’ll work fine on your camera.
